Greetings Friend of Noe Valley Rec Center,
As you get ready for Thanksgiving, join me in being thankful for our awesome neighborhood park resource. Also, mark your calendar with all the upcoming events! The Friends of Noe Valley Rec Center is hosting an informal open house on Tuesday, December 1st at 6 PM which gives the community a chance to meet new Rec Center staff and learn about the new programs start in January. Read on for more reminders about upcomign dates for building closures in December. Open House on Tuesday, December 1st, 6 – 7:30 PM The Friends of Noe Valley Rec Center is host its first “Open House” event on December 1st from 6-7:30 PM. At this informal event, you will be able to meet the Noe Valley Rec Center Staff and learn more about the line up of new programs that start January 2nd at the Rec Center. Come by and learn about what is coming up at the park. Suggest ideas for future events. Light snacks will be served. Kids welcome. Stop by for a few minutes and say hi! Garden at the Rec Center, December 12th at 9:00 AM Do you have a green thumb? Join the LadyBug Gardeners for an early morning gardening expedition around the Rec Center. Many hands make light work — and fun work! Keep the park looking beautiful and stop by for an hour or more of volunteer time. Floors to be Refinished in December – Gym and Tot Room to Close for 2 weeks – Dates shifted slightly The basketball gym and indoor playground for tots will be closed in December for two weeks so that the wood floors can be refinished. The closure will affect the buildings from December 7st-18th. (Dates slightly different than what earlier reported.) Tree Planting on Billy Goat Hill on January 16th Join the Friends of Billy Goat Hill on January 16th for a tree planting event. The group was recently featured in a Noe Valley Voice article, and will be undertaking an ambitious event in January. They will be planting trees on Billy Goat Hill on Saturday, January 16th from 9AM – Noon, with the aid of the San Francisco Rec and Park folks and the Friends of the Urban Forest. They are going to need a lot of volunteers to make that day a success. (Billy Goat Hill is just up the hill from the Rec Center on 30th Street, stop by for a great view of San Francisco!) Sign up for New Programs Starting December 12th The new “Winter Programs” schedule is now available. The programs will run from January 2, 2010 – February 26, 2010. The programs will be listed at the City website www.SFRecOnline.org as of November 20th. You need to have a Family Account to register for any scheduled SF Rec and Park program. You can get aFamily Account by going in person with identification and proof of residency to the Rec Center during the following “Family Account Registrations” at the Noe Valley Rec Center: 12/12 between 10 AM – 3 PM, and December 14-18th between 4-7 PM. Go to the Rec Center office and speak directly with the staff. Tiny Tot Holiday “Free Play” Schedule Updated After the floor refinishing, the gym and tiny tot areas will reopen. The Tiny Tot room “free play” holiday schedulefrom Late November until early January has been updated and posted on the web site. (We will continue to post any updates.) Free Puppet Show in Dolores Park, December 6th at 11 AM. The Friends of Dolores Park has organized “Puppets at the Playground” Featuring Nick Barone and his show “Holiday Treats” on Sunday, December 6, at 11 am. Free! Holiday Treats is an original thirty minute Christmas show from Nick Barone puppets. Filled with loveable and friendly monsters, this comical story is designed to delight families and children of all ages. Are you interested in something like this coming to Noe Valley Rec Center?
