Who We Are

Friends of Upper Noe Recreation Center is a stewardship committee with a number of volunteers organized around a specific areas of interest. It is a member of the San Francisco Public Space Collective, fiscally sponsored by Contina Impact, a registered 501c3.

A group of neighbors and interested citizens banded together in 2005 to form a stewardship group for the recreation center to foster community involvement and enable communication between neighbors and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. Upper Noe Rec Center belongs to the entire neighborhood and everyone is welcome to be involved.

What We Do

FUNRC facilitates community outreach and fundraising events as well a ensures that there is a link between the community and the staff of the San Francisco Rec and Parks Department.

Our goals are to:

  • Connect community members with their park . Increase community involvement in the park through newsletters, events and volunteer opportunities; build an online community that supports the exchange of information about the various areas of interest around the park; inform the community about important decisions from city government that directly affects the park.
  • Share information between the community and Rec and Park. Raise community concerns to Rec and Parks and facilitate the dissemination of park information to the neighborhood.
  • Fund raise to enhance the park. Offer funds to help cover services and purchase items not covered in the City’s budget; to date we have raised over $100,000 and purchased many items for the park, including acoustic panels for the auditorium, picnic tables, a sound system, indoor tot toys, sporting equipment, safety features, and more. We are evaluating future purchases for the park, including additional equipment to enhance the park’s activities, events, and community experience.
  • Maintain the quality of our park. Ensure the upkeep of the facility and grounds through community involvement and awareness.

The purpose of the stewardship committee is to facilitate communication between the community about the Upper Noe Recreation Center. Committee members work together for the overall good to ensure that the Rec Center is providing for all community members. We welcome new stewards in all areas of interest.
